Dental Emergencies: We’re Here For You
Dental problems can happen unexpectedly. Some situations require immediate attention, while others can safely be scheduled during regular office hours. Below is a helpful guide to determine when to contact our office right away.
What Is a True Dental Emergency?
Seek immediate care or call us right away if you are experiencing:
Uncontrolled Bleeding
- Bleeding that does not stop after 10–15 minutes of firm pressure
- Heavy bleeding following an extraction
- Facial Swelling with Fever or Illness
Swelling spreading to the eye, neck, or throat
- Fever over 100.4°F
- Difficulty swallowing or breathing
- A “muffled” voice due to swelling
- These symptoms may indicate a serious infection. If you are having difficulty breathing or swallowing, please go to the nearest emergency room immediately.
Severe Dental Trauma
- A knocked-out permanent tooth
- Possible broken jaw
- Deep cuts to the face or mouth
Urgent Dental Issues (Same-Day or Prompt Appointment Needed)
These issues should be addressed quickly but are typically not life-threatening:
- Severe toothache
- Swelling without fever
- Broken or cracked tooth with pain
- Dental abscess with localized swelling
- Lost crown causing sensitivity
- Post-procedure pain that is worsening rather than improving

Non-Emergency Concerns
The following conditions can usually be scheduled during regular business hours:
- Mild sensitivity after a filling
- Small chipped tooth without pain
- Lost filling without discomfort
- Dull toothache that comes and goes
- Minor orthodontic wire irritation
